THIS FILE CONTAINS INFORMATION RELATING TO THE INSTALLATION OF THE RIGHT HONOURABLE LORD STEEL OF AIKWOOD AND THE RIGHT HONOURABLE LORD ROBERTSON OF PORT ELLEN AS KNIGHTS OF THE MOST ANCIENT AND MOST NOBLE ORDER OF THE THISTLE., Order of Service x 1 Order of the Ceremonial. 10.45 the Chancellor, Minister of St Giles', Dean of the Thistle, and Secretary and Lord Lyon proceed to West door of St Giles'. 10.47 Procession of the Order of the Thistle to assemble in the Signet Library. 10.50 Arrival of HM Queen Elizabeth II. 10.55 Procession will enter the Cathedral. Order of Service - The congregation will stand and the choir will sing Psalm 122, 1-3,6,7. Ceremony of the Installation - Lord Steel of Aikwood and Lord Robertson of Port Ellen will stand before the Sovereign. All within the Chapel will remain standing. The Dean will say "In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,...Let us Pray...Go before us, O Lord, in all our doings, with thy most gracious favour, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works, begun, and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy name, and finally by thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord"., The Sovereign will say - "It is our pleasure that Sir David Martin Scott Steel, the Lord Steel of Aikwood be installed a Knight of the Thistle" Green Rod will conduct the Lord Steel to one of the vacant stalls. Lord Steel will stand in his place and the Dean will administer the Oath: "I shall be true to my Sovereign Lady the Queen. I shall maintain the honour and dignity of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle. I shall fortify and defend high standards in the life of the nation and the world. This is my solemn Oath". , Green Rod returns to his place. Lord Lyon will proclaim the style and titles of The Lord Steel of Aikwood., The Sovereign will say " It is our pleasure that Sir George Islay MacNeill Robertson, the Lord Robertson of Port Ellen be Installed as Knight of the Thistle. , Oath of Lord Robertson., The Dean will give the blessing - " As you have been made Knights of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, and now are solemnly Installed, devote yourselves to the honour of God, to the maintenance of Christ's most holy Evangel, and to the service of Her Majesty The Queen". , The Dean will give the blessing "Unto God's almighty care and protection we commit you: the Lord bless you and keep you: the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you : the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace"., All wihin the Chapel shall be seated., The Dean will read this lesson "Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against the flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shiled of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and with the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perserverance and supplication for all saints. May God bless to us this reading of his most holy Word, and to his Name be glory and praise"., Prayer., All within the Chapel will say the Lord's Prayer., All within the Chapel will stand., The Dean will say "God save our gracious Sovereign and all the Members of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle....May the merciful Lord grant them with all the faithful, peace, light, and life everlasting....The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all..Amen"., The congregation will stand. The choir will sing Psalm 136., Procession will leave the Chapel. , Bidding., Lesson - First book of Kings ch.8 v.8-22 read by Lord Steel of Aikwood., Anthem - O clap your hands., Prayer., Hymn - Lord, who in thy perfect wisdom., Prayer., At 12 noon - two minutes silence will be observed., The National Anthem , Benediction. , Procession leaves Cathedral via West door. , and Enclosures x 15+ Correspondence, entrance ticket, guests list, cost of service and music.
